Cartoon Cake

Thanks to my Daughter Dushinka's Christmas Present of a voucher to attend the

t-Lounge by Dilmah cartoon cake making class I learnt how to do this.

Needed

a crumb coated cake of your choice

fondant - white, pink, black, red and yellow

an extruder for fondant

Rolling pin

mat to roll on

a toothpick

a border or frame cut out with board

water and paint brush

cornflour to roll out fondant

Method

To make a tall cake take a cake tin of height 16 cm and 14 cm circumference.

Make any cake of your choice. Crumb coat with buttercream icing.

Take a white piece of fondant and roll out to the length and height of your cake, Then carefully place it around your cake. Then take the pink fondant and roll out a circle and use a mould to get the size needed for the top circle. Dab the paintbrush in water and paste the top pink circle on the cake. Take a roll of white fondant and roll out a sausage shape for the candle and put a toothpick at one end. Roll out a piece of pink fondant and cut a thin strip, then on either side add a border of rolled black fondant and twist it around the candle, Mix a bit of red and yellow fondant and make a flame for the candle. Then press the toothpick into the centre of the cake. Always remember to keep your fondant wrapped up in cling film or put into a zip-lock bag as they dry out very fast.

Take the black fondant and make a sausage shape and put into the extruder, select a disc with a circle in the centre as shown in the image below and keep pressing it out to get a thin black border.

Take the pink fondant and roll out a long piece to fit around your cake, not too high. Then keep your board design for the scallops or a plastic mould with your desired shape and cut with a knife. Then dab your paint brush on the cake pink boarder and wrap around the cake.

Now take the black fondant thin long piece that you have squeezed out of the extruder and place it on the base of your pink boarder, as shown in the picture below. Then take another piece of black fondant and wrap a round the base of the cake.

Et Voila!!! your cartoon cake is ready.

NB: Paste everything with water if not by the time you are ready with your cake all the decorations will all fall off!
